Swelling
Hemorrhoids, especially the external type, would cause your anal areas to become tender and swell. This condition is also known as thrombosis, which happens when a blood clot is formed in the hemorrhoids. This clot can obstruct your blood circulation and lead to swelling. In most cases, the swollen area would shrink after a few weeks after taking some prescription medications. Some other possible treatments include soaking in warm water, applying topical wipes and creams, or using ice packs.
