What You Need to Know About a Gallstones Diet

Foods to Avoid in a Gallstones Diet

Unhealthful Fats and Refined Carbs

The gallbladder is responsible for producing bile that aid in the digestion of fats. When you consume too many fats, particularly trans and saturated fats, it would put extra stress on this process. Scientists have found that those who eat a lot of eggs, processed and red meats may have a higher risk of gallstones. Avoid foods with unhealthful fats, such as fried foods, fast foods, full-fat dairy products, processed foods, red and fatty meats, ice cream, candy, chocolate, premade baked goods, as well as premade sauces or salad dressings. Carbs are an important part of our diet. Unrefined carbs, such as oats and grains would provide many important nutrients. Nevertheless, refined carbs could increase the risk of gallstones and other gallbladder issues. Some studies have found that consuming more than 40 g of sugar per day would double the risk. It is better to avoid or limit your consumption of chocolate, candy, refined grains, white flour, sweeteners, and added sugars. [7]
