How Verzenio Works
In advanced stages, breast cancer leads to quick growth and division of harmful cells, which may spread to other parts of the body. Verzenio belongs to a class of drugs called cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors. It contains the active ingredient abemaciclib, which may target a particular part of the body in which the cancer is affecting. Specifically, verzenia may inhibit CDK4 and CDK6 proteins that are responsible for the growth of body cells. As a result, cancerous cells cannot grow and become inactive over time.[3]
