Types of Twins – What You Need to Know

Identical Twins

Identical twins, also known as monozygotic twins, are conceived from the same fertilized egg. This egg is separated into 2 embryos and becomes 2 babies later. Since they both come from the same sperm and egg, their chromosomes are identical. This means they have the same sex and physical characteristics, including hair and eye color. If there are small differences between identical twins, it might be due to some environmental differences during pregnancy, especially the space and positioning in the uterus. Lifestyle changes and illnesses during childhood may also make identical twins act and look differently later in life. [4]
