Hypertonic Dehydration – What You Need to Know

What Is Hypertonic Dehydration?

Hypertonic dehydration is a condition in which the levels of sodium and water are imbalanced. It is characterized by relatively higher sodium levels, and relatively lower water levels. In general, when the body releases water through sweating or urination, the concentration of sodium and other electrolytes in the blood is higher. Hypertonic dehydration happens when more water is excreted than sodium by body. This results in a high concentration of sodium in the fluid around cells. When sodium concentrates too much outside cells, the mineral will draw more water of these cells. This causes these cells to shrink and leads to many health issues.  [2]
