Foods to Avoid If You Have Anxiety or Depression

Alcohol

Many people drink alcohol to calm their nerves. However, studies have shown that wine and beer may have some negative effects on sleep and hydration. Both factors may lead to symptoms of anxiety. Alcohol may change levels of neurotransmitters and serotonin in the brain, which worsen anxiety and depression. As the effects wear off, you would even feel more anxious. In general, try to drink in moderation to reduce the risk. Men should not drink more than 2 portions per day, while women should not consume more than 1 portion per day.  [3]

Processed Oils

Saturated and refined fats may be associated with depression and anxiety. Consuming too my fatty foods cooked with processed oil may affect brain function and make symptoms worse. Even worse, these types of fact may increase the risk of many medical conditions, especially cardiovascular issues. To lower the risk, avoid trans fats in processed foods, saturated fats in processed and red meats (beef and port), as well as corn and safflower oil. [4]
