Fecal Transplant for Ulcerative Colitis: What to Know

Can Fecal Transplant Cure Ulcerative Colitis?

There is currently no scientific evidence that a fecal transplant can cure ulcerative colitis. However, studies have suggested that it would help some individuals achieve remission. This means their symptoms of ulcerative colitis may go away completely or get better for a period of time like weeks, months, or years. Nevertheless, further research is still needed to determine how long remission would last after this procedure. In fact, it is not currently used for treating ulcerative colitis outside clinical trials. While there is no cure, some options can help reduce flares and manage symptoms. These include:

– Take probiotics supplements

– Take drugs, such as immunomodulators, biologic medications, or steroids

– Reduce levels of stress

– Have a well-balanced diet and avoid trigger foods [4]
