Loop Diuretics
Compared to thiazides, loop diuretics are a more powerful kind of diuretics. They work by restricting the sodium-potassium-chloride co-transporter in the kidneys. As a result, it helps abolish or reduce the reabsorption of potassium, chloride, and sodium, resulting in an increase in urine flow and fluid loss. Though loop diuretics are note often suggested as the first line of treatment for hypertension, they are effective in treating hypertension cases linked to renal disease, liver cirrhosis, or congestive heart failure. Common loop diuretics include torsemide, ethacrynic acid, and furosemide. [3]
