Other Risks and Drawbacks of Bed-Sharing
In addition to sudden infant death syndrome, bed-sharing with baby may pose some other risks. These include:
– Babies may be trapped between the mattress and the wall or headboard, which lead to suffocation
– A soft bedding or mattress may also cause suffocation
– Babies may find it harder to fall asleep later on their own without their parents
– Bed-sharing babies may have less sleep consolidation and sleep for a shorter duration
– Parents may have to go to sleep earlier than they want
– Parents would find it uncomfortable to have sex with the presence of their baby
– It may also disrupt and affect the sleep quality of the parents [6]
