Amitriptyline – Uses, Dosage, Side Effects, Warnings and More

Possible Side Effects of Amitriptyline

In several hours after taking amitriptyline, you may feel dizzy or drowsy. In these cases, it is better to take the medication during bedtime. Other common side effects may include headaches, confusion, blurred vision, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, swollen tongue or face, skin rash, tingling and numbness in the legs and arms, dry mouth, unexpected weight loss or gain, and nausea. These problems tend to be mild and disappear after several days. However, if they persist or worsen, make sure to inform your healthcare provider. While it is not uncommon, more serious side effects would occur. These may include a heart attack, stroke, seizures, decreases or increases in blood sugar, suicidal actions or thoughts, and orthostatic hypotension. [6]
