Causes and Risk Factors
The exact cause of the Tetralogy of Fallot is still unknown. The condition tends to be more common in kids with Down syndrome, DiGeorge syndrome, or other genetic conditions. Nevertheless, the occurrence is almost sporadic and not inherited. There is an association between Tetralogy of Fallot and some other risk factors, such as German measles, alcoholism during pregnancy, maternal age of more than 40 years old, parents with Tetralogy of Fallot, and poor maternal nutrition.
