Symptoms of Hemolytic Anemia

Headaches & Swelling

Hemolytic anemia may result in headaches, especially in women. This sign is not as common as other symptoms mentioned above and usually happens with dizziness or lightheadedness. The association between headaches and this disorder is still unknown. A possible reason may be the low hemoglobin levels in red blood cells, which causes a lack of oxygen to the brain. Therefore, blood vessels in this area would become swollen and lead to headaches or increased pressure. Though headaches are a common health issue, you should seek medical attention when it recurs and persists. [5]

In some cases, you might know whether you have hemolytic anemia by taking a look around or inside the mouth. People with this disorder may have their tongues become strangely smooth, pale, inflamed, or swollen. A lack of hemoglobin in the blood also causes some possible signs around the mouth. These include mouth ulcers, sored red cracks, a burning sensation, or a dry mouth. [6]
