How to Prevent Psoriatic Arthritis Flares?

Some triggers of psoriatic arthritis are unavoidable. However, you can make several lifestyle changes to reduce the risk and frequency. These include:

– Moisturize the skin with a suitable cream or lotion to prevent dryness, especially after swimming, showering, bathing, or during dry or cold weather

– Showering or bathing with warm instead of hot water

– Avoid having piercings or tattoos

– Wear sun-protective clothing and apply sunscreen when going outside

– Stop smoking

– Reduce stress, a common trigger for psoriatic arthritis flares, by yoga, meditation, regular exercise, music listening, deep breathing, and other hobbies

– Reduce alcohol consumption

– Consume more anti-inflammatory foods in the diet, such as whole grains, healthy fats, fresh fruits, fresh veggies, and spices

– Avoid some medications that may trigger flares of psoriatic arthritis

– Keep a journal to identify possible triggers of psoriatic arthritis flare [10]
