Plasma Cell Leukemia – Symptoms, Treatment, and More

Outlook

Plasma cell leukemia is a rare, but aggressive type of cancer. It would initially respond to treatment, but may recur quickly later. The average survival rates for people with this condition stand from 4 to 11 months. Some factors may worsen the outlook, such as age, low serum albumin levels, low platelet counts, poor kidney function, hypercalcemia, high plasma cell counts, high levels of B2M or LDH, and the presence of t(11;14). Early diagnosis and treatment may help improve the outlook. In recent years, advancements in stem cell transplants and other treatment options have improved this number. In some case, cancerous cells can be eliminated completely. [9]
