Pannus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Diagnosing Pannus in Rheumatoid Arthritis

A doctor would believe that a pannus may be a possible trigger of swelling and pain, particularly when you have joint deformities or rheumatoid arthritis. During the physical exam, some questions about the medical history would be asked, such as:

– How long have you experience pain or inflammation?

– Has the pain become worse over time?

– Does the pain affect one or two sides of the body?

If the doctor suspects the presence of a pannus, he or she would suggest some imaging techniques to examine the affected areas. Common options include a CT scan, an MRI scan, ultrasound, or X-rays. [6]
