Morgellons Disease Fibers
Morgellons disease is characterized by the emergence of fibers from the skin. Many people think that they are formed by the body, but some studies suggest otherwise. For instance, a 2012 study by the CDC found that fibers mainly consisted of cellulose or superficial skin. Even dyes were identified in these samples. In 2016, researchers compared fibers gathered around the living area (such as plastic fibers, pet hair, or human hair) and fibers from people with Morgellons disease. The results showed that fibers in the body would actually be found from the surrounding environment rather than the body. Another study revealed that the fibers were not organic and contained keratin. [6]
