Interstitial Cystitis – Diagnosis and Treatment

Bladder Instillation

In bladder instillation, the bladder is filled with DMSO, a solution that contains dimethyl sulfoxide. It needs to stay in place for 10 minutes before being emptied. The main goal is to reduce inflammation on the bladder wall, thus relieving muscle spasms, urgency, and pain. The treatment needs two sessions per week for 6 to 8 consecutive weeks. If needed, this cycle can be repeated. The DMSO solution can be combined with other drugs to make you feel more comfortable or boost the effects. [6]
