Surgery
It is quite rare for people with hip bursitis to undergo surgery. Indeed, most cases tend to improve within 6 weeks with the above treatment options. However, if they keep doing a lot of repetitive movements after that, the inflammation may recur and lead to more aggressive flare-ups of bursitis. In case the condition becomes worse, the doctor may suggest an arthroscopic bursectomy. This is a minimally invasive procedure that may remove the bursa through a small incision. After a period of healing, the patients may return to normal activities. Crutches may be needed for several days to add support.[10]
