Facts You Need to Know About Psoriasis

Psoriasis Types and Symptoms

Classified by the spectrum of clinical varieties, psoriasis could be divided into five types: Psoriasis Vulgaris, guttate psoriasis, inverse psoriasis, pustular psoriasis, and erythrodermic psoriasis. [2]

Psoriasis Vulgaris

Psoriasis Vulgaris is the most common form of psoriasis, affecting nearly 90% of people with psoriasis. It often appears in elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, and umbilicus with red or pink plaques covered by a white scaly layer. These plaques are usually well-delineated. With the gradual peripheral extension, the size could eventually reach one to ten centimeters in width.

There are three variants of psoriasis Vulgaris based on different plaque configurations. Annular psoriasis is characterized by ring-like lesions with healthy skin in the center of the plaque. Psoriasis gyrate, as the name suggested, has a circinate appearance, and psoriasis follicularis often appears at the openings of pilosebaceous follicles. [3]
