Chickenpox vs. Shingles: What Are the Difference?

Vaccination for Shingles

There only one vaccine available for preventing shingles. It is called Shingrix or recombinant zoster vaccine. Researchers have proved that this vaccine is up to 90 percent effective in shingles prevention. It may also help with chronic nerve pain, a complication of shingles. Public health experts recommend healthy people who are over 50 years old should get two dosages of Shingrix to reduce the risk of shingles. The vaccine is also available to those people who:

– Have immunosuppression

– Are following low-dose immunosuppressive therapy

– Have healed from an immunocompromising condition

– Are getting other vaccines for adults, such as pneumococcal or flu vaccines [9]
