Candidiasis
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida. These fungi can be found on the entire body and only cause problems when they penetrate internal organs or the bloodstream or when they grow uncontrollably. There are different subtypes of candidiasis with distinct signs, such as:
– Vaginal candidiasis: painful urination, unusual discharge, painful intercourse, soreness, itching
– Esophageal candidiasis: difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing
– Oropharyngeal candidiasis: loss of taste, pain, soreness, redness, white patches
If candidiasis spreads to many body parts, it may cause a serious infections in the eyes, blood, brain, heart, joints, or bones. [3]
