7 Ways to Lower Your A1C Level

Reduce Carbohydrates Consumption

Consuming fewer carbohydrates may reduce the number of blood sugar spikes, thus lowering A1C levels. To achieve this goal, you should measure your levels of blood sugar after eating carb-containing foods and then determine which products have the most significant effect. Try to cut out or reduce daily or weekly consumption of these foods. Health experts recommend that carbohydrates should make up for 45 percent to 65 percent of the daily diet. Diabetic patients should consume even fewer, with no more than 50 percent of the daily calories intake from carbohydrates. In general, it is advisable to avoid simple carbohydrates, such as pastries, cookies, white bread, sugar, pasta, and any food made from white flour. These products would be quickly processed by the body and raise blood sugar levels. Instead, go for complex carbohydrates, such as oatmeal, legumes, quinoa, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, or brown rice. [1]
