What Is the Duodenum?
The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine located between the jejunum and stomach. Though this is the shortest section, it plays an important role in digestion. The typical shape of the duodenum is like a horseshoe. A part of digested food goes through this area and is then broken down thanks to bile and chemical reactions. After this process, nutrients and vitamins can be absorbed into the bloodstream for transport to other body parts. [1]
