Reticulocytes: 6 Facts To Know

What Are Reticulocytes?

Reticulocytes are young red blood cells that often remain in your bone marrow and only venture out into the circulation of blood several times. The number of these cells in your blood increases when red blood cells are vigorously produced. These include after an accident that causes major bleeding, after the regeneration or suppression of the bone marrow, or when hemolytic anemia causes abnormal destruction of red blood cells. [1]
