How to Treat Chigger Bites at Home

Essential Oils

Several types of essential oils can be applied directly to the skin to help alleviate itching and inflammation caused by chigger bites. Common options include basil oil, rosemary oil, camphor oil, lavender oil, as well as tea tree oils. Keep in mind to dilute these essential oils with a moisturizer or carrier oil before applying to the skin to avoid irritation. Common carrier oils to consider include coconut oi, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, grapeseed oil, or evening primrose oil. Also, do not put essential oils close to the eyes or take them orally. In addition to ease itching, essential oils have been proved to help prevent chigger bites as well. However, it is important to note that they are a form of alternative or complementary therapy, which is not regulated by the FDA. Make sure to use with caution to ensure safety and prevent side effects.  [3]
