What Are Delusions?
Delusions are irrational and false beliefs that some people keep holding onto even when there are firm proofs that they are totally unreal. People in a delusional state cannot let go of these untrue convictions in spite of contrary evidence. Delusions are typically reinforced when events are misinterpreted or involve paranoia. Religious or cultural background is not the reason for these false beliefs, nor the level of intelligence. They can be possible signs of certain psychotic disorders and may occur along with hallucinations. [1]
What Are Hallucinations?
Hallucinations are basically sensory experiences that people consider to be real when they are actually unreal. Mental disorders, medical conditions, substance abuse, or medications can be possible causes. Hallucinations can be tactile (perceptible by touch), gustatory (perceptible by taste), olfactory (perceptible by smell), or visual. For instance, people may smell some odors that are not present, see some objects or people that are not existing, hear some weird sounds, or feel insects on the skin. [2]
