Symptoms
The exact signs of a sore throat would vary a lot, depending on the underlying cause. Some typical sensations include irritated, tender, dry, raw, burning and scratchy. It tends to be worse when you are talking or swallowing. The tonsils or throat can look red and swollen as well. In addition, there might be some other associated symptoms like runny nose, nasal congestion, cough, sneezing, body aches, chills, and fever.
While mild cases of strep throat often have similar symptoms like sore throat, people with this condition would have areas of pus or white patches around their tonsils. They are triggered when the bacteria grow. Signs often develop within 5 days after exposure to the bacteria. [3.1] [3.2]
