Myoclonic Seizure – What It Is, Symptoms & Treatment

Causes and Risk Factors for Myoclonic Seizures

Myoclonic seizures may be caused by any of the following things:

– Head injury or trauma

– A stroke

– Brain infection

– Brain tumor

– Genetic mutations

– Abnormal development of the brain

– Lack of oxygen in the brain

In some cases, it is not clear what causes myoclonic seizures. Certain factors may increase the risk of developing this condition. These include young age, a history of seizures, a family history of epilepsy, stroke, born with brain abnormalities, being female (especially juvenile myoclonic epilepsy), and activities that would lead to brain injury.
