Angelman Syndrome – Symptoms and Causes

Behavioral Issues

Happiness is probably one of the most noticeable symptoms of Angelman syndrome. It is a distinctive behavioral sign in which you would smile and laugh often while having a heightened feeling of euphoria. Waving movements and hand-flapping can accompany this state. In addition, children with this disorder tend to be very hyperactive and cannot focus. In spite of their intellectual and physical limitations, they seem to be emotional all the time. Irregular sleep can be common as well, especially leading to no more than 4 to 5 hours of sleep each night. This lack of sleep can further aggravate their hyperactivity. Some other behavioral issues include drooling, tongue thrusting or excessive chewing. [4]
