How to Perform CPR – Guidelines, Procedure, And Ratio

What to Do Before CPR

Before performing CPR, keep in mind the following things:

– Find a safe environment to reduce the risk for you and other people.

– Try to tap on the person and ask them to in a loud voice. Only use CPR if they cannot respond properly.

– Let the person lie on the back in case they might have a spinal injury.

– Call medical emergency as soon as possible.

– Check the pulse to know whether the person is still breathing. [5]

How to Perform Hands-Only CPR

The following steps can be done to perform hands-only CPR:

– Step 1: Put the person lying on their back on a flat and firm surface.

– Step 2: Put one hand’s heel in the middle of the patient’s chest, right between the nipples. Place the other hand on top of your first hand. Interlock all fingers and keep them up to ensure that only your hand’s heel stays on the chest.

– Step 3: Push down on the chest to ensure a compression rate of 100 to 120 times each minute. Ensure to let the chest enough time to come back up between each compression.

– Keep doing compressions until medical services arrive or the patient begins to breathe again. [6]
