What Is Hematology

Hematology is a branch of medicine that studies blood in relation to disease and health. Blood plays a key part in our health, including fighting off illnesses, controlling the balance of acidity and water, as well as carrying vital elements around the body, such as nutrients and oxygen. Any conditions associated with the blood would affect many systems in the body, especially the lymphatic system, which is a network of organs and tissues clearing waste. In some cases, blood disorders originate from issues with the bone marrow, in which the body produces blood cells. The main goal of hematology is to understand the underlying causes of these conditions, learn about how they affect your health, and find out possible treatment options.[1]
