Whooping Cough – Diagnosis & Treatment

Throat and Nose Test

The most common test to check for whooping cough is to take a throat and nose sample. The doctor will use a swab and get a small amount of mucus around your throat or nose. This sample will be then grown in a culture and examined under a microscope. It would provide any evidence of the bacteria that triggers your whooping cough. This is by far the most definitive diagnostic technique as it allows your doctor to choose the best drug for treatments. It should be completed within 2 weeks after the infection. [2]
