Pediatric Dosages for Imatinib Mesylate

The dosages of imatinib mesylate for children are different from those for adults. The general guideline is as follow:

– Philadelphia-positive acute myeloid leukemia: 340 milligrams per square meter per day, combine with chemotherapy.

– Philadelphia-positive chronic myeloid leukemia in the second and third stages: 340 milligrams per square meter per day.

Possible Side Effects of Imatinib Mesylate

Imatinib mesylate may lead to certain common side effects. These include lethargy, stomach ache, diarrhea, rash, vomiting, nausea, muscle pain or cramps, or swelling around the eyes, feet, ankles, or legs. Most of these problems tend to disappear in several days or weeks. While it is not common, the medication may cause some serious side effects as well, such as unexpected weight gain, shortness of breath, chess pain, dry cough, difficulty breathing, swollen belly, bleeding gums, bloody stool or urine, frequent infections, liver failure or damage, severe haemorrhage, and some gastrointestinal issues.
